Chef Rosie Batista

My Story

I am Chef Rosie Batista also known as La chef del pueblo (the people’s chef) and welcome to my blog.

I developed a passion for cooking at a very young age thanks to the Food network and my parents for giving us cable TV. I was introduced to so many culinary icons, but little did I know the most important one was living right at home, and I called her Mami.  At the age of 11 I created my very own mac and cheese (not the boxed one) I made my own cheese sauce using a roux that I have now been making for over 20 years second best to my Brooklyn’s Lasagna. But we will get into that a little later.

I met my husband Nick in 2011, God blessed us with two beautiful children (Hailee & Chase) and we later tied the knot in 2023 (why we waited so long? I don’t know that’s the way God wanted it and I don’t complain).

Before becoming a chef, I had several jobs in HS I worked parttime at a surgical supply company that went on until I was 21. I then with my sister-in-law opened a Family Day care business which we ran for another four years. Later I joined the NYC department of education until 2018. Finally in 2018 it was time for me to take initiative of my life and do what I loved.

After the birth of my second child (2018) I decided to document my journey in college while achieving my bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. I graduated in 2021 with a concentration in Culinary not savory (hence you’ll find fool proof desserts on here but nothing over the top). Non-traditional recipes on my blog are tested by me and approved by each member in our family including our dog Kratos. Dominican recipes are handed down directly from my mother, mother-in-law, aunts, and trusted friends who have all shared their knowledge and failures throughout the years. I am so thankful for each one of them.

Being a chef is not a job for me, I truly enjoy what I do (and if what you do is not fun for you, I encourage you to dig a little deeper and find what makes your heart happy). Throughout the years it’s been trial and error like everything else in life therefore that makes me a recipe developer, tester, writer, videographer, photographer, content creator and over all women I am today.

Today I create simple recipes with ingredients most of us have at home for all who want to put their kitchen to use. You don’t have to be an expert to learn how to cook just a little curiosity, love (#1 ingredient) and patience (you will bring out the best version of yourself) and together we will put a great meal on the table weather it’s for just for you or for friends and family.

We thank you for being here and can’t wait to hear all about your cooking adventures.
